Medical assessments in Child Protection and sexual abuse - A half day conference for experienced practitioners 

The safeguarding Partnership hosted a conference for experienced practitioners on Medical assessments in Child Protection and sexual abuse on 17.03.2022

 The aim of the conference was to improve competencies for partnership working when responding to children who need to undergo a medical assessment for child protection or sexual abuse purposes.

 Part 1: Child Protection Medical Examinations – Why do we do them and what to expect.  Presented by Dr Louise Watson - Designated Doctor – Children’s Safeguarding & Consultant Community Paediatrician

 Part 2 : A new referral pathway for Child Protection Medical Examinations has been developed and trialled during 2023 and is shown on this flowchart. 

  Part 3: Sexual offences legislation and Police forensic requirements. Presented by Detective Inspector Stuart May – TVP East Berkshire Child Abuse Investigation (CAIU)

 Part 4: The processes of a forensic medical examination and other services at the Sexual Abuse Referral Centre.  Presented by Dr Sheila Paul – Clinical Director, Thames Valley Sexual Assault Service
